About Us

WeFarm has been founding by a group of young people from Battambang province in 2020 who had been involving with the Mekong Youth Farm Network (Y-Farm). We have been inspiring young people from different perspective and region to share their insight and stories. When we come back together were discussing the problems that happen in our communities and ask ourselves how can we be part of the solutions. Why there are no young people interested in farming, what will happen if, in the future, there are no farmers anymore? We do not have answers at that time, we have been involving with the workshop, talking to people. In January-September 2020, we have got a chance to pilot a project of our three programs, under support from Gret Organization. Together with 11 young volunteers and 30 young people joining the farm camp, plus a survey, we finally figure out three programs under WeFarm to move forward.

Farm School

Why we do farm school?

The purpose of farm school is to promote the importance of farm to school activities in helping to improve and support the local economies and connect young people and communities with the source of their food. The Farm school connect people to the land and communities through skill-based farmers training. It is more in the farm practising and staying at the farm from 1 week to 3 months, based on the availability of the young people, university students, and researchers. We have our curriculum that develops together with our young people in the community, which tailored to the practice.

2. Seed Bank

Saving Seed is saving yourself

Seed Saving is a direct action to protect plant biodiversity, and help with the regional adaptation of food plants. New variations will only be found by people who save seeds. Saving seeds is a way to generate free food and for sustainable agriculture practice with a healthy environment. What if, one day, there is no seed on the planet, what will happen? What if there is not organic seed exist, how can we talk about organic food? So, this is the only way that we can preserve our local seed, culture, and tradition on the way we are saving a single seed.

3. Farm Tour & Camp

Why Farmers need to host TOURs?

Farm Tour are important for many reasons. With most of the populations at least two generations removed from farming, it gives people interested in how food produces an opportunity to make a connection with farmers. Many people talk about food, its nutritional values or how to cook it, but have never actually visited a farm, talked to a farmer, or had any education on how food is grown, except maybe their own experience as a home gardener. During a visit, they can hear your story – why you farm, how you farm, and how your farm has changed. If they can experience it, even better.

WeFarm has selected four young people to be a host of the farm tour & farm stay, and this from their commitment and passion as well.

Why Farm Education Camp?

Farm Camp offers a traditional camp experience on a real working farm. We work to create a fun and safe environment that encourages independence while nurturing lasting friendships. We design to build the network with all the young people. We focus on promoting a positive self-image, encouraging friendships, community, and practising a healthy lifestyle. We will gather all the young farmers to share their experiences, their failures, co-create, and design thinking to overcome all the challenges. We connect, share, build a network, and learn together.
